Aqua Suites
What we like about this hotel is the structure: Aqua Suites arranges its rooms as...
In the late 1980s, the Canarian artist and architect César Manrique turned a stretch of Puerto del Carmen's seafront into twenty-five whitewashed suite buildings, threading them through tropical gardens that still feel more like a private estate than a hotel complex. Lani's Suites de Luxe has kept that original architecture largely untouched, its clean volumes softened by bougainvillea and palms, its centrepiece a heated pool that seems to spill toward the Atlantic just beyond the terrace tables. Adults-only since it opened, the hotel has built a loyal following among European couples who return, year after year, for the same quiet corner of the garden, the same butler who remembers their order, and the same seaside table at dinner.
We chose this hotel because the design does the talking: Manrique's architecture gives it a genuine sense of place that no amount of modern renovation could manufacture elsewhere on this stretch of coast. The adults-only policy is strictly kept, the staff-to-guest ratio feels generous for a twenty-five-suite property, and small gestures, a concierge call weeks before arrival, bags already unpacked at check-in, bottled water and chocolates at turndown, add up to something closer to a private villa stay than a conventional hotel. On a shoreline dense with mass-market resorts, that restraint is exactly what stands out.
Lani's Suites de Luxe sits directly on Puerto del Carmen's Avenida de las Playas, with a rear gate opening onto a small rocky beach within steps of the suites. The promenade's cafés, bars and casino are a three-minute walk, and the sandier stretch near Playa Blanca is about five minutes on foot. Timanfaya National Park's volcanic landscapes are a twenty-five-minute drive, and Lanzarote's airport around ten. It is a location built for walking rather than driving, with the hotel's own gate doing most of the work that a shuttle bus would handle elsewhere on the island.

Each of the twenty-five suites spans one or two bedrooms plus a separate living area, with interiors that lean into Manrique's original playfulness: fuchsia and lilac upholstery, oversized headboards, ostrich-leather accents, and lobby details that feel closer to an art installation than hotel decor. Every suite opens onto its own terrace facing the ocean, and the higher categories, Deluxe, Master and Master Premium, add private outdoor hot tubs. In-room touches run toward the thoughtful rather than the flashy: a stocked bar, a wine cooler, a Bluetooth speaker, and a pair of binoculars left out on the terrace for guests hoping to spot dolphins offshore.
The hotel's seaside restaurant has built its own following among Puerto del Carmen residents, who book tables for its Atlantic views and an international menu anchored by oxtail croquettes, a chilled gazpacho and a truffle-scented pumpkin soup. Beef arrives weekly from northern Spain, and the kitchen leans on local suppliers for fish. Every rate includes an à la carte breakfast rather than a buffet line, which keeps the morning unhurried, and the poolside bar carries the same attention into the afternoon, with cocktails served by the same butlers who look after the suites, right down to the preferred poolside lounger.
