La Palmera Hotel Boutique
We loved the contradiction at the heart of La Palmera Hotel Boutique: a handful of...
VEINTIUNO Emblematic Hotels occupies a colonial-style home built in the eighteenth century in Vegueta, the historic heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, restored to keep its original stone walls, high ceilings and antique wooden furniture rather than stripping them out for a generic boutique look. Eleven rooms sit across the building, each shaped by the house's original proportions more than by a standard template, and the result reads as a restoration project that happens to take guests rather than a purpose-built hotel. Adults-only throughout, it trades the resort coast's scale for a single historic address in the old town, cathedral views included.
We chose this hotel because it solves the same problem as our other Las Palmas pick, differently: where a resort stay offers a pool and a beach, VEINTIUNO offers a cathedral view from its own rooftop pool and eighteenth-century stonework underfoot. The 9.5 rating across more than three hundred reviews points to consistency rather than novelty, and the restoration has been careful enough that rooms keep real architectural character, not applied decoration. For a hotel this size, that level of preserved detail in every room is unusual, and it rewards a second and third stay as much as a first.
Vegueta is Las Palmas's oldest quarter, and the hotel sits within walking distance of the Santa Ana Cathedral, Calle Triana's shopping street, and a run of museums and modern art venues that make up the city's cultural core. Restaurants, bars and cafés fill the surrounding streets, and Muelle de San Cristóbal beach is a short walk for guests who still want the sea. Gran Canaria Airport is about 19 kilometres away, with a private shuttle available for an extra charge. It is a location built for exploring a city on foot, cathedral included.

Categories run from a ground-floor Comfort Economy Interior through Classic rooms with direct courtyard access to Deluxe rooms around 27 square metres suited to longer stays, with a Premium category at the top offering the most space and a cathedral view. The grading has less to do with added amenities than with proximity to the building's best original features, the courtyard, the light, the view, which keeps even the entry-level rooms honest about what they offer rather than dressing up a standard box with a higher price tag.
The rooftop terrace is the hotel's one dining space, serving an à la carte breakfast included for every guest, with the Santa Ana Cathedral's towers visible over the rooftops of Vegueta. There is no lunch or dinner service on site, which fits a location where the old town's own restaurants, bars and tapas bars are a short walk in any direction. Guests arriving by car should budget for the twelve-euro private parking fee, since Vegueta's narrow streets leave little room for casual street parking nearby, especially in the evening.
